FISHING LESSONS
No one is born knowing how to fish. Therefore, when you do get around to learning, whether it's a trusted relative or a professional that you're paying, you'll need to take fishing lessons at some point. In your first lessons, you'll learn how to cast, how to bait hook and how to safely remove a hook from your fish to ensure that it survives when released back into the waters.

Like any type of lesson, it helps to go into your first angling lessons with the right attitude. In addition to having some confidence in your ability to learn, you'll also want to go easy on yourself and not expect too much. Very few people master casting a regular, ocean or fly rod in a single day. However, you might be surprised at how quickly you can pick up this skill as soon as you get the hang of how to handle the rod and reel.

Of course, practice does make perfect, and it's often a good idea to practice the basics on dry land as much as possible before you find yourself in the wilds, full of snags. In fact, to do so without expensive lures means that there's little you can lose. Even after fishing lessons, you'll want to make sure you take some extra time to build up your skills.

Angling lessons are offered through various angling clubs in the UK, with most of the proceeds from memberships and lessons slated to be given to angling and wildlife conservation groups. Often this also includes stocking the lakes with large and small fry, alike. Even if you never do find yourself taking up the habit, you can be assured that the money you spend on lessons will go to a good cause.

The most sought after type of angling education is fly fishing lessons. Very often the cost of the lessons includes a single day rod license, since it's illegal to even practice fishing without the requisite license, your teacher will very often make checking licenses the first order of business. Lessons in coarse fishing, especially for some of the predator species, are also very common. You don't even have to be a beginner to benefit from fishing lessons. Often, fishing teachers will have a very specific style or type of cast they're offering as part of the coursework.

When looking for good fishing teacher, check to see that they are certified by one of the professional agencies that govern angling instructors. The Professional Anglers Association (PAA) and the Game Angling Instructors Association (GAIA) are governing bodies that very often certify teachers. Your instructor should also have public liability insurance and training in first aid.
