A Guide To Fishing In Lancashire

A Guide To Fishing In Lancashire
The home of the famous hot pot, Lancashire also boasts some superb angling venues set in some of the most breathtaking countryside in the UK.
If you go fishing in Lancashire you’ll find the charming Mortfield Fishing Club in Halliwell near Bolton. This family-run club aims to deliver fun and enjoyment and it really doesn’t disappoint. You’ll find bream up to 7 lbs, rudd up to 2lbs, roach in excess of 3lbs, eels up to 3lbs, pike exceeding 17 lbs and some heft carp weighing in at 34 lbs.
Fishing in Lancashire means versatility. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran, seeking some relaxing pleasure fishing or the thrill of a match, this county has much to offer.
The River Ribble, for instance, is widely regarded as one of England’s foremost fishing rivers, with wonderfully large barbel and chub testing your angling skills, especially in the middle and lower regions. You’ll find numerous day ticket coarse fisheries dotted along the river, all of which have secure parking.
If you’re a game angler hunting for monster carp, salmon and trout, the Ribble is the river for you. The Ribble’s main tributary, the Hodder, is renowned for its superb sea trout.
Further north, you’ll find more reasons why fishing in Lancashire is so addictive. Magnificent salmon, sea trout, and trout can be swept from the depths of the River Lune and the River Wye.
Not only does Lancashire boast some of the best fisheries in England, it lays claim to quite probably the largest, too. The fabulous Stocks Fly Fishery at the head of the Hodder Valley is set in the stunning landscapes surrounding Clitheroe and offers no less than four and a half miles of fishable shoreline around its 350 acres of open water.
Created in the 1930s by flooding the village of Dale Head and its surrounding farmland to provide potable water for the Fylde, it is now officially designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty is the superb Pendle View Fisheries, nestled in some of rural Lancashire’s most spectacular scenery – the Ribble Valley. The main lake spans almost 10 acres and the match and pleasure lake is home to some lovely bream, carp, tench, rudd and roach.
If it’s trout that you’re seeking, try the 1 acre fly lake – it’s teaming with brownies, rainbows and the occasional blue. You’ll also get some tremendous views of Pendle Hill and Wiswell Fold!
Further afield, in a beautiful valley carved by the River Condor in Lancaster, you’ll discover the gorgeous Forrest Hills Golf Club and Fly Fishery. Set in 200 acres of ravishing wooded countryside, this award-wining venue has a 4 acre fly fishing lake which is open every day to the public from dawn to dusk. And you could even take a break from angling with a 9-hole round of golf.
