Fishing In Greater London

Fishing In Greater London
Greater London encompasses a huge and densely populated area, including the City of London and 32 London Boroughs. But beyond the traffic rumble and flashing lights of the city centre, anglers can be sure of one thing: if you go fishing in Greater London, you’re going to be spoilt for choice.
You could make a start in the beautiful 200 acre grounds of the imposingly grand Syon House, just across the River Thames near Kew Gardens.Albury Estate Fisheries controls this beautiful 6 acre stillwater lake, designed in the 1760s by none other than Capability Brown. Syon Park Fishery, as it’s called, is generously stocked with rainbow and brown trout by Albury, and the venue is ideal for novices and experienced anglers alike.
The angler in search of some excellent coarse fishing could do little better than to try fishing in Greater London. The two man made lakes at Lizard Fisheries make for some literally awesome coarse fishing, especially in the warmer summer months. Located in Yiewsley, West Drayton, the main species include bream, carp, roach, rudd, perch and tench. Don’t forget to arrive with a pocketful of pound coins, as tickets are purchased from a machine in the car park. There aren’t any toilets or refreshments on site, but the fishing is so superb you’ll hardly notice.
While you’re in West Drayton, it would be a mistake not to try the challenging 10 acre coarse fishing lake known as Orlitt’s Lake. The lake is blessed with innumerable features, which will make your angling experience both highly interesting and intriguingly testing. You can expect to find some monster carp, hefty tench and some bream and pike for good measure. Fishing in Greater London is certainly versatile, and Orlitt’s Lake is one of the many venues which prove it.
A glorious setting for fishing enthusiasts is Hyde Park, in central London. The Serpentine is leaping with bream and carp, but ensure you’ve obtained a permit from the park office first, or you’ll be escorted off the premises in a rather summary manner (the permit will cost between £10 and £15, and covers a whole season, so it’s a pretty good investment).
An especially challenging, and beautiful place to cast a line is the stretch of the River Thames between Ham and Petersham Meadow.
Varying in depth between five and seven feet, this stretch of river reaches 80 yards in width in places and you can expect to catch plenty of roach and hefty bream, as well as perch and the occasional barbel. Some gargantuan carp are also known to put in the odd appearance. Fishing is free and there are no bans in force at present, although anglers are advised to take care whilst ascending and descending the banks as they can be very step.
With innumerable other venues to tempt you hither and thither across London, fishing in Greater London will make you completely forget that you’re testing your tackle in one of the most populous and congested cities on the planet. It’s surprising where you can find oases of angling Heaven, but Greater London is studded with them.
