Fishing In Cumbria

Fishing In Cumbria
Famous for being the home of the spellbindingly beautiful Lake District, Cumbria has another less well-known string to its bow: it offers some of the best fishing in the UK.
Fishing in Cumbria is an angler’s delight. Casting your line into the sparkling waters, the mirror-like lakes or the open fells nestled amongst the peaks is a great way to spend a day (or night.) You could even wander discreetly to less well-known locations like the West Cumbrian coast, the Eden Valley or the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s not just the fish you’ll catch that makes Cumbria special – it’s the open air and the fabulous landscapes you’ll be immersed in, too.
An excellent way to discover just how enchanting fishing in Cumbria can be is at the superb Windermere, Ambleside and District Angling Association. Fly fishers and coarse anglers alike will rejoice at the sheer range of fishing available – and the stunning locations you’ll be doing the fishing in!

From remote and wild hill tarns laden with native brown trout, to abundantly stocked rainbow fisheries, fly fishing rarely gets better than this. And, if you fancy catching some salmon, sea trout or grayling, the Association also offers fabulous river fishing on the Derwent, Ehen, Ribble and Eden – to name just some of the fisheries you’ll have access to. Coarse anglers can haul in some excellent carp as well as some hefty tench, roach, perch, bream, rudd and eels. There’s even some superb pike fishing – and you’re highly likely to catch them weighing in at over 20lbs.
Or if a spot of tranquil lake fishing is all you’re after, take a look at the New Mills Trout Farm . Bursting with rainbows up to 14lbs and browns up to 8ibs, the lake is kept well-stocked and there’s even a smaller bait pond for beginners and children where the fish weigh no more than 1 lb.
If you’re still looking for reasons to try fishing in Cumbria, drop by at the Penrith Angling Association. Sitting peacefully in the Eden Valley, the scenery alone will take your breath away as you gaze at the gorgeous River Eden winding its way through the meadows and woodlands. But you’ll also experience quite possibly the best grayling and brown trout fishing in the whole of the UK. Controlling 42.5 miles of bank in total, the Association also offers fishing on the Dacre Beck, Trout Beck, Briggle Beck, Leith, Lowther, Petteril, Lyvennet and Eamont. If you want to be spoilt for choice, this is the place to come.
Fishing in Cumbria offers a magnificent array of fishing in some of the most splendidly rustic landscapes in the country. Rolling hills, spectacular peaks, sparkling rivers and beautiful lakes all combine to make angling in this part of the world an experience you’ll never want to forget.
