A Guide To Fishing In Cheshire

A Guide To Fishing In Cheshire
Close your eyes and picture sitting on a tree-lined bank, fishing in the heart of unspoiled countryside, before wandering on to where the river courses languidly through pristine meadowland, every so often hauling out Roach, Dace, Grayling, Trout, Perch, Chubb, Pike and Barbel. Stop dreaming – you can have all this and much, much more by packing your rod and tackle in the car and setting off for a day or two’s fishing in Cheshire.
Whether you like high banking, plenty of twists and turns, deep holes or gravel runs, fishing on the River Dane presents river anglers with all their favourite challenges. The Bay Malton Angling Club controls four stretches of the River Dane offering every one of these scenarios. You’ll also get access to angling complexes with an array of waters, toilet facilities and cafes as well as a range of other waters, from large lakes and dam to peaceful little ponds in the soothing isolation of the deep Cheshire countryside.
If you’re fishing in Cheshire, however, you’re fishing in the county, which boasts the largest (and most successful) angling club in Europe: the Prince Albert Angling Society. Formed in 1954 by a group of friends who met regularly to share angling tales in Macclesfield’s Prince Albert pub, the society has expanded from its humble beginnings to control no fewer than 230 waters, ranging from rivers to still waters of all sizes.
Whatever your angling preference – river or still coarse fishing, river or still Trout fishing, or Salmon and Sea Trout fishing – this Society is an angling must (but be warned: it’s so popular, it has a three year waiting list presently).
Keen match anglers might want to try Fields Farm Fisheries near the little East Cheshire town of Sandbach. Serenely nestled in a beautiful valley, Fields Farm hosts an Open Match every Saturday and the fishery sports five pools of different shapes and sizes.
Big Beam Pool is the largest at 2 acres, and is ideal for match and pole fishing, with virtually all of the 52 pegs fishing 13.5 metres to a feature. You’ll find scale-perfect Tench, Crucian, Rudd, Bream, Roach, Carp, Chubb and Barbel gliding cheerfully through this lake.
More mature stock can be found in Kingfisher Pool, where you’ll be able to find plenty of Ghost, Mirror and Common Carp, each tipping the scales at 20lbs, as well as reasonably sized Tench, Bream, Rudd, Roach, Perch, Barbel, Crucian and Chub.
Fishing in Cheshire will also lead you to the superb Partridge Lakes Fishery. Set in 50 acres of ravishing Cheshire countryside, this fishery boasts 14 uniquely designed waters for some of the best coarse fishing in the UK (Angling Times dubbed it “The best designed match fishing waters in the North west” in 2009) and you can choose from quality day ticket fishing or club and open matches.
All waters are stocked with top quality fish, including Rudd, Roach, Perch, Tench, Carp, Chub, Bream, Golden Tench and Ide. If you take out annual membership you’ll have exclusive access to the fabulous 3-acre Gold Lake in its exquisite landscaped woodland setting.
